Game day 10 90 Min.
Materials: Printed/cut out pictures, 1 for each member of the class. Blank paper for drawing, 1 for each member of the class.
Objectives:
Students will effectively communicate.
Bellwork: 10 min.
Split the class into groups of 2. Tape a piece of paper to the back of one partner, and give a picture to the other partner. Have the partners describe and draw (without seeing) the pictures. (Do only one picture per partner, have the discussion, then do the other picture and see if it improves.)
Pregame 40 min.
Ask students the following questions.
1. How would you describe the experience of drawing those pictures?
2. How would you describe the experience of explaining those pictures?
3. What did effective communication look like?
4. What are some ways that communication in the game is going well? What are ways that it can be improved?
Have the students do the second picture, and then discuss what went better than the first time.
Game Play: 30 mins.
Set game timer and click “End Day” on your website.
Let people start to negotiate.
Conclusion: (10 mins.)
Have students say out loud 1 thing that they are thankful for, from the class or elsewhere.
