Day 13 90 mins.
Objectives:
Students will determine how willing they are to live with ambiguity in order to solve problems.
Bellwork: (10 mins.)
Play would you rather with these questions:
Would you rather a house that always must be kept clean or dirty?
Would you rather a world that is always quiet or always noisy?
Would you rather read every word you ever have to read in this font or this font?
Would you rather always have to make logical decisions, or always have make decisions based on the roll of a dice?
Would you rather always having to do groupwork with your friends or with people you don’t know?
Pregame: 40 mins.
Watch this video:
Talk with students about possible oblique strategies. Have the students brainwrite their own oblique strategies that might be used in the game to see if it will help with negotiations, calculations, persuasion etc. (Do know that the website is one limitation that the game creates.)
Examples:
• All students switch roles with someone who is not from their country.
• Students all turn their backs and speak.
• Students only use sign language to communicate.
• Students talk to the wall to explain why they are right.
• Throw 1 ball around the circle. When you catch the ball you are allowed to say one word.
Pass out index cards and have them write the best 3-5 on cards. Keep them for students to use when they are stuck on how to solve a problem.
Game: 30 mins.
Set game timer and click “End Day” on your website.
Let people start to negotiate.
Conclusion: (10 mins.)
We have two days left. Predict the next 4 problems. Predict the outcome of the game.
