Game Day 2 (90 min.)
Objectives:
Students will explore the “Atlas of Emotions.”
Students will reflect on their own emotional triggers, and their emotions from game day 1.
Bellwork: 10 min.
Put the following questions up on the board for the students.
1. Before you heard the other team’s solutions, what did you expect yesterday?
2. What emotions did you feel during the presentations?
3. What negotiations took place yesterday?
Pregame: 25 – 30 mins.
Go to the website: https://www.paulekman.com/atlas-of-emotions/
Split the class up into 5 groups and assign each an emotion.
Have each group learn about the emotions, have them talk about each section: States, actions, triggers, and moods.
Game Play: 30-45 mins.
Set game timer and click “End Day” on your website.
Read the new challenges. Let everyone move any pieces they desire (according to the rules).
Let people start to negotiate.
Both of the crises from today may not get easily resolved. The reason for setting them so early in the game is to give the students some time to work on them.
Conclusion: (10 mins.)
Have students list possible triggers and actions for each of the main emotions that could happen from things that happen in the game.
