Game Day 4: 90 mins.

Students will look at complex problems and be able to see that not all problems are solutions are completely binary.

Demonstrations/Protests Crisis 7
In Xtensica there are three social classes, upper, middle and lower. The lower class has been protesting against some strict rulings of their rulers and level of unemployment in the country as well as the treatment of some minorities specifically because of race. The group of protesters is supported by the SUO group that is in the central mountains. They are considered rebels by the government. So far the protests have been calm, but if unemployment does not fall by 2% or more, there may be violent protests and the government may have to resign their posts. Without an increase in production to help the unemployed in 5 days of play (5 months) Xtensica rulers will have to resign their posts. The government also needs to figure out how to deal with racism in society and how to de-escalate tensions with the SUO.

Land Mines Crisis 8
The last time that southern Intelibus fought for its independence was 20 years ago. At one point the rebels planted large fields of land mines to blow up incoming tanks. There are still several hundred of these mines in the ground. At times they blow off people’s limbs, or kill innocent people.
Talk about the multifaceted problem of socioeconomic equality, racism, and rebel groups. Read about FARC and its recent (at the time of this lesson plan being created) disarmament. Answer the following questions.
1. What should be the government’s job for its people?
2. Is inequality okay or not? Are there any circumstances when inequality is okay? Why or why not?
3. Whose job is it to make the government serve the people?

Have students give a grade from 1-10 of how well they were able to read each other’s emotions. Ask who improved from yesterday.
